外国语学院成立于2003年，下设英语系、日语系、公共外语教学研究一部、二部、外国语言与外语教学研究所等教学和研究机构。学院现有在编在岗教职工105人，专任教师有91人，其中教授3人、副教授19人，博士及在读博士20人，青年教师占比60%以上，80%以上教师具有国外留学或访学经历。另有外籍教师4人，外聘教师31人。学院现有英语和日语两个本科专业，在校生1317人(其中英语专业学生1060人，日语专业学生257人）。目前已培养17届英语专业毕业生，12届日语专业毕业生。

学院牢固树立“质量立院、特色发展”的办学理念，坚持培养复合型、应用型、创新型外语人才的办学思路，贯彻以学科建设为龙头、以专业建设为抓手、以教学改革为支撑、以实践教学为关键、以师资队伍为依托、以人才培养为核心，以提高专业学科层次、教学科研水平、人才培养质量和学生就业核心竞争力为主要目标的发展战略。英语专业先后获批国家一流本科专业建设点、广东省应用型人才培养示范专业、校级综合改革试点专业、校级卓越人才培养计划试点专业、校级课程思政示范专业。“外国语言文学”入选校级第五、第六轮重点学科，第七轮重点特色学科。

学院2006年被评为湛江市“巾帼文明岗”，2007年被评为湛江市“三八红旗集体”，2008年被评为广东省“巾帼文明岗”，2012年被评为湛江市女职工先进集体，2015年获评“全国五一巾帼标兵岗”。

Faculty of Foreign Languages Guangdong Ocean University

Founded in December 2003, the Faculty of Foreign Languages consists of English Department, Japanese Department, Section 1 and Section 2 of College English Teaching, Language Training Center and Foreign Language Teaching Research Institute. The faculty has won the first prize of teaching achievements of Guangdong Ocean University for four consecutive times, and the second prize of teaching achievements of Guangdong Province in 2019. Foreign Language and Literature Discipline was approved as one of the seventh round of university-level characteristic key disciplines, and College English Course was approved as a high-quality resource-sharing course in Guangdong Province. Other honorary titles include Zhanjiang Women pace-setter (collective) , Guangdong women's civilization post, National May Day women's model post, etc..

Two undergraduate programs are provided: English and Japanese. The English major has been approved as a state-level first-class undergraduate major construction point in 2022. It is one of the three applied talents training demonstration majors in Guangdong Province, the first comprehensive reform pilot major of applied undergraduate demonstration major construction point, the ideological and political demonstration pilot major of Guangdong Ocean University, and the university’s pilot excellent talents training program. In the undergraduate professional evaluation of the university, English and Japanese majors respectively won the first and third place in the liberal arts group.

There are 91 highly-qualified full-time teachers, including 3 professors and 19 associate professors, 11 doctors and 9 doctoral candidates. More than 5 foreign teachers are working here. The teachers of the faculty have won the grand prize of "SFLEP Cup"; National College Foreign Language Teaching Competition (Guangdong region), the Grand Prize of the national Semifinal of FLTRP "Teaching Star" Competition; and some other honorary titles, such as the Famous Teacher of Guangdong Province; the "Southern Guangdong Teaching Rookie"; the national "March 8" Red flag bearer,etc.. In the past four years, the college has undertaken 66 teaching and research projects of various kinds, including 5 national projects, 22 provincial projects, and 39 municipal and university-level projects; published more than 140 academic papers, 10 patents, and 31 academic works, translations, and textbooks.

The teaching condition here is complete. There are 22 digital language LABS, including simultaneous interpretation training rooms, business training rooms, scenario simulation LABS, multi-functional language training rooms, translation training rooms, multi-functional wisdom training rooms, etc., with various software and platforms installed, including the translation software, intelligent voice software, Integrated Training System for International Business, Utalk audio-visual training platform, Deja Vu computer-aided translation software system, big data word bank assisted teaching system and other soft wares. A teaching website and multimedia resource library for high-quality courses has established. A cross-border e-commerce industry college and 44 off-campus internship and employment bases are available.

The innovated talent training mode has improved the quality of talents continuously. In the past five years, the pass rate of TEM-4, TEM-8, N1/N2(JLPT) has been at least 20% above the national average. A total of more than 1,000 students have won provincial awards and above, including 28 grand prizes and 167 first prizes, such as the first prize of the National College English Writing Competition, the grand prize of the Guangdong College English Writing Competition, the first prize of the Guangdong College English Speech Competition, the Translation Competition, and the Reading Competition. In recent years, students are increasingly eager to participate in scientific research and study for Master Degree, and the faculty has been rated as the advanced one many times in providing relevant service. The employment rate of graduates has exceeded 99% for four consecutive years, the overall satisfaction of employers with graduates has exceeded 94%, and the faculty has been awarded the first prize of advanced unit of graduate employment, advanced unit of employment guidance, and advanced unit of job market development.

The Faculty has always adhered to the socialist direction of running education, taking "cultivating virtues and cultivating people" as the fundamental task, and is committed to building the faculty into an important base for the training and scientific research of high-level foreign language talents, actively integrating into regional economic development, and serving the Chinese-style modernization.
